Weekend movie(Krrish) and FC5 Linux !

This Saturday, morning we were planning for Phir Hera Pheri but again change in the plan and ended up watching Krrish in Kamakya theater. No special comments.
About music, atleast two songs were really good. Pyaar Ki Ek Kahani and Koi Tumsa Nahin(sounds similar to Tumse Badhkar Duniya Mein from Kaamchor). Yes, it’s none other than, Shreya Ghoshal ;-)
By the way, I have received the Fedora Core V5.0 CDs. Thanks to LinuxBazar.
Today I tried to install it on my HP Pavilion Laptop.
First time installation failed because of Diskspace not enough for the selected package list. Then I selected only “Development” package so the installation went well.
Infact this is a flaw in the installation procedure. After the custom package selection, the installer should tell the required diskspace.
Since I installed bootloader(GRUB) on /boot partition instead of MBR(C-Drive), I used Mandrake Move(Live CD) to copy the boot sector(512) bytes from /boot partition to C Drive and edited the NT boot loader to include the GRUB bootloader file.
OK, everything was ready to boot the fedora core for the first time. Hardware detection seems to be perfect (Network card,Sound,Display,USB mouse… etc).
Default, the display resolution was 800X600 so I tried to change the resolution but I couldn’t :(
FYI, the OS has selected the right Driver for my Graphics Card, but even then I could see only 640X480 and 800X600. I am still struggling to make it 1024X768. So I will post the Screenshot only if I get the 1024X768 display. One more thing, there is lot of flickering, donno whether this is because of Hardware OR the Monitor Driver which is shipped with this release. Because, for the Laptops we don’t have much choice for the Monitor type and the default detection seems to be the only way.
Regarding the development tools, everything has got installed (except DDD ,expect and ethereal which I have installed from the CDs after the installation, this is not a problem but it’s better to make these apps as part of the Development Package).
Regarding, Multimedia. Just like recent releases, the MP3 support has been removed. May be there is a MP3 plug-in for the XMMS. After looking at the available packages and the kind of hardware support, if you want modest multimedia applications along with development, the Mandriva seems to be a better choice.
Fedora core Linux, is more or less looks like a Corporate Desktop where the user is suppose to use development tools and Office/Internet tools more often than any other applications.
Atleast for me, it looked like Fedora is not a Laptop friendly !
