VI is a simple yet powerful editor, and no doubt about that.Almost 90% of people on UNIX/Linux LOVE IT !.. of course Me also.But my love with VI ended when I installed Mandrake for the first time(2 years ego !).I found KATE.. (NOT Kate Winslet.. LOL ) It’s “KDE Advanced Text Editor”…Actually I stopped using VI after I started logging into KDE (even on RedHat).Before that I was using GNOME.
Let me tell u something about KATE. Nothing special though !
It has a MDI(Multiple Document Interface), means u can access more than one file on a single window (See these screen shot).You can have terminal for quick compilation.And most IMP of all, it has a Highlight Mode for almost all major scripting languages including C,C++,PHP,JAVA… etc.This doesn’t mean I entirely stopped using VI.
BTW, We can’t compare any editors with VI,because VI is much more than that ! !
BTW, have a look @ some screen shots from Mandriva Linux 2006 on my hp Pavilion DV1000.

Today I got a chance to meet a person from KDE Team,”Sirtaj Singh Kang“.Vary cool !He will be showing DEMO from KDE 3.2 Beta.Offcoarse,I will give him company in setting up Mandrake Linux On 2 PC’s.He will then copying all the BINARIES of KDE 3.2 in to these.Actually he showed KDE 3.2 on his Laptop, and it looks SIMPLY GREATE…
I asked him to build KDE 3.2 for Mandrake 9.1(Because that is one i m currently running).So I may get it tommarow.
Anyway, Linux-Bangalore/2003 is “UP AND RUNNING“

-Two konqueror windows [Normal user mode as file manager]…Konsole [2 tabs..Terminal]
-GIMP for quick image manipulation…And many more system processes………
*Observation, sometimes when I click close button[i.e,"X"] of GIMP
suddenly PC stops responding for about 3 sec but never HANG !…Obviously I can’t expect MORE from My PIII 500MHz
So I came to the conclusion that LINUX is not stable(‘;’)……..Infact ROCK SOLID !

Finally I created this Logview-1.0 A simple Super Karamba Theme for KDE 3.X which displays System Logs on the Desktop itself.

Yaa..Finally Mandrake Linux 9.2 is out.I cant see any such New Features, but worth having a set. A FIRST LOOK from ofb.biz.Some quotes

. there is some 3GB free space on the hard drive.
. have 3 CDs (or more) of RPM based LINUX DISTRIBUTION (eg. Red Hat, Mandrake, SuSE ..etc)
