Today we got the cable internet connection from ICE Network (Rajajinagar).The funny thing is, the network guy(one came here to install LAN card),saying Windows98 is more secure than both Win2k and linux(’;')..Anyway he configured the connection for wi98 only.I tried myself on LINUX..and tell you one thing,configuration is even easier than windows.First off all,you don’t have to do anything.Just boot into Linux,open $drakeconnect..Violla ! its already connected..Offcoarse it might be another MAGIC of Mandrake Linux 9.1, but sure it will be as easy on any other modern Linux Distributions.As far as,connection speed is concerned..well not impressed.They say 64MBPS shared…whatever be that, you only get around 10kbps download speed.Thats seems OK, only if you are comming from a dialup world.
Downside:500MB download limit.

But look at this,they say “We haven’t talked to a single user who’s said they’re using [open source] because it’s better.” .Let me explain with respect to INDIA. In India 70% of people using Windows, just because it came preinstalled (offcourse games,favarite applications…etc etc) and believe it are not they think it is FREE(`;’).No one is paying any licenses or something like that.And the thing is, most of people (including ME) are spending money on LINUX CD’s, not on WINDOWS CD’s. So in effect, roughly we can say Windows is FREE here .Now why people starting to use LINUX when THIS is the scenario.There is a CATCH. They have their own REASONS. Further open source apps doesn’t have to be BETTER..they just have to be as good as for the people to start using them. ….
